Instructions for Installing Septic (and Rainwater) Tanks
General
The tanks are made of one piece of high quality polyethylene (LLPDE).
This makes them very rigid and they are always checked by quality
control. Polyethylene has the major advantage that it is highly
resistant to the majority of chemicals.
Operation
A septic tank takes waste water from the toilets (no rainwater).
In the tank, the liquid and solid components separate. The heavier
elements sink, forming a sludge; the lighter elements form a crust
on the surface. This crust protects the contents of the tank from
oxygen. The fermentation process that develops with anaerobic bacteria
converts the solid parts into liquids. This process reduces the
amount of sludge. The liquid thus formed is discharged into the
drain.
Installation
The tank is placed underground and preferably as close as possible
to the source of the contaminated water. To do this, dig a hole
large enough to take it, so the tank can be installed without problem.
The bottom of the hole should be lined with a 20cm thick layer of
stabilised sand. Lower the tank into the pit and connect the pipes.
Fill the tank with water while at the same time filling the space
surrounding the tank (25cm) with stabilised sand. If the depth is
greater than 30cm between the top of the tank and the surface of
the ground, or if the tank is located in a place where vehicles
pass over it, a concrete slab must be placed around the cover.
Caution: This slab must rest on the stabilised sand around
the tank and not on the tank itself.
Maintenance
In accordance with the provisions of the Vlarem II Bis legislation,
the septic tank should be cleaned out annually. After it has been
emptied the tank should be filled with water again.
Guarantee
Our septic tanks are guaranteed against all manufacturing faults,
on condition that the installation instructions have been strictly
observed.
